Understanding the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ)

Article updated on 20/05/2022

The Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ), has now been introduced in designated parts of London 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to help reduce emissions, and improve our air quality.

The new zone will use the same boundaries as the central London Congestion charge zone and vehicles that do not comply with the new standards will face a daily charge of £12.50.

Is the vehicle I am renting subject to the ULEZ charge? If the vehicle you are renting is subject to the charge, it should be clearly stated in the listing. If you are unsure and would like to check, please visit here, and enter the registration plate of the vehicle you are renting.

Is the charge included? The ULEZ Charge will not be included in your rental price and you will be required to settle the charge directly with TfL.

How to pay? You must pay by midnight on the day after you travel. To pay online, go to: www.tfl.gov.uk

Fail to pay on time and the owner risks getting a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) which you will be liable to pay. Go to this article to see the next steps.
