The driver is responsible for any penalty notices received during the rental, but they might be sent to the registered address associated with the number plate.
For Getaround Connect rentals, the driver is responsible for any parking tickets received up to 48 hours after check-out.
For cars registered in the UK:
There are two possible scenarios:
1) The penalty notice was issued in the country in which your vehicle is registered (UK penalty notice for a car registered in the UK, for example)
We strongly advise to pay for the PCN, at the reduced rate. PCNs can be difficult to challenge, and time consuming. Once we have received a copy of the original PCN and the payment receipt, we'll debit the driver to reimburse you.
Please note that we will debit the reduced penalty charge to the driver, so please ensure to make the payment within the stated delay.
If you decide to challenge the PCN, you should do this by following the instructions on the notice (either online or by post). You’ll find all the information you need on the page of the rental for which you received the ticket, by clicking on: Penalty notice received during the rental.
The notice should then be issued to the driver – this is known as 'transfer of liability' by authorities or parking company.
Don’t pay the fine if you are challenging the notice. Usually, paying is seen as an admission that the notice was right, so you won’t be able to challenge it once you've paid. Never pay the fine if it carries points.
Warning: you must challenge the notice within the stated delay, otherwise you will be responsible for any subsequent legal proceedings.
2) The penalty notice was issued outside the country in which your vehicle is registered (French penalty notice for a car registered in the UK, for example)
No penalty points will be given for an offence committed abroad. If you receive a fine, we recommend paying it and sending us the receipt so that we can debit the driver's account as long as the rental conditions have been met. To ask us to charge the driver, go to Your rentals > [relevant rental] > Penalty notice received during the rental, and follow the steps.
In either case, you are entitled to request compensation for the inconvenience and any postal costs. You will then receive compensation of £30. You can request this compensation on the website: Your rentals > [relevant rental] > Penalty notice received during the rental.
