Guide to the insurance cover and conditions

Article updated on 15/11/2021

Our insurance cover has been designed to protect you if your vehicle is damaged by the driver or a third party during a Getaround rental. This means that your no-claims bonus will not be affected.

We advise checking with your insurance providers before listing your car on Getaround to ensure your policy allows car sharing. If an event does occur with your car during a rental, our comprehensive insurance with Allianz will cover your claim. You can read up on our claims process here.

In the event of an accident, the driver pays the repair costs up to the amount of the insurance excess, and the insurer pays the rest. Getaround’s insurance covers:

  • Personal injury
  • Damage to your vehicle and cases of fire or theft, whether by the driver or a third party, up to a limit of £40,000.
  • Damages or accidents and broken glass (impacts larger than a £1 coin)
  • Third-party liability.

For your vehicle to be fully covered by Getaround’s insurance, you must make sure that:

  • Your vehicle is eligible for our site.
  • The driver meets our rental conditions.
  • You have carried out all the driver checks and completed the walkaround inspection of the vehicle at the start of the rental. For Getaround Connect rentals, these checks will be performed by Getaround and the walkaround inspection will be carried out by the driver.

Please note that breakdowns and punctures are not covered by our insurance policy. You are responsible for maintaining your vehicle. If you think the driver is responsible for a breakdown, you can appoint an expert to demonstrate this.

You can find more information on our puncture policy and our clutch policy in our Help Centre.
