Drivy, the European leader for peer-to-peer car rental, launches in Spain

After 5 successful years in its home market France and the launch in Germany 8 months ago, Drivy, the European leader for peer-to-peer car rental, launches in Spain.

With already 38 000 cars and 600 000 users in France and Germany, Drivy strengthens its leadership in the peer-to-peer car rental market in Europe. In spring 2015, Drivy raised 8€ millions, bought two French competitors and became the leader in Germany by acquiring a competitor. Today Drivy launches its public beta in Barcelona, this is the first step before the opening in Madrid in September and the national launch planned before the end of 2015.

Jaume Suñol, the Managing Director of Drivy in Spain, will form a team in order to develop the service everywhere in the country : “There are 22 million cars in Spain which are parked 93% of the time on average, but owning a car in Spain means a big investment for families, and new generations don’t see it as a need, specially in big cities like Madrid and Barcelona where parking is very expensive. We have an opportunity to position Drivy as a platform that can help reduce these costs for car owners, and a perfect solution to find available cars to rent nearby at great prices.”

Before joining Drivy, Jaume Suñol co-founded Friend2Friend, a startup specialized in social media marketing for mass-market brands.

As in France and Germany, all cars rented on Drivy are covered by a specific insurance designed by Allianz. The car owner’s insurance isn’t affected during the time of the rental and renters are also covered by 24 hours roadside assistance.

“The Spanish are very open to the sharing economy, as the success of BlaBlaCar and Airbnb in Spain demonstrates. We are convinced that they will be responsive to our car-on-demand service because it provides them with a more economical and efficient solution for occasional car use than ordinary car ownership.” says Paulin Dementhon, CEO and Founder of Drivy.
